Casa Helene is a well equipped home from home, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and sleeps up to 4 guests very comfortably. As well as providing guests with a fantastic base for a sunshine break – our log burner makes the property a great choice for a winter break too! Popular as a romantic getaway and we also attract many house hunters in the off peak months.
This traditional stone built cottage lies in the heart of Central Portugal, on the edge of a small quiet village called Vale de Vide, surrounded by forests and is the perfect place to get away from it all and completely unwind. Whilst it retains all the original characteristics, Casa Helene has recently been renovated to a high standard.
The property has a modern interior with an open plan kitchen/lounge, one bedroom and bathroom all on the ground floor; creating an easy access living space for those people with limited mobility. This a great space to dine and relax, equipped with a log burning stove, flat screen TV, DVD, and Wi-Fi with unlimited internet access.
Downstairs there is a twin bedroom with it’s own bathroom and a door leading to an outside patio. The downstairs bathroom is also equipped with a washing machine.
There is private access to the cottage, which has its own patio area, and a separate access to the walled courtyard.
The courtyard is entirely enclosed and creates a safe and private place. Here the children ( and adults ) can play without supervision. It is also an ideal place to sunbathe and eat al fresco. The courtyard has an above ground plunge pool. Access to the barn comes from the courtyard, where amongst other things the wood for the wood stoves is stored. Under the barn there is a room where all the leisure facilities are stored, e.g sun loungers, umberellas, tables, chairs etc.
The gardens contain a number of mature fruit trees, we have figs, olives, cherry, peach and persimmon. You are welcome to pick any ripe fruit to eat or cook!
As our guests you will enjoy exclusive use of all of the property, the courtyard and the gardens.

A car is essential to explore and enjoy everything this area has to offer and there is a private parking space at the cottage. Parking for additional cars is available outside the courtyard.
Vale de Vide is 7 km away from Mortagua where you will find all of the amenities you could need. Train station, banks, swimming pool, supermarkets, restaurants, shops, bars and parks. While, hopefully, you will not need them, it is reassuring to know that there is both a medical and dental centre in Mortagua.
A ten minute walk [uphill] or a 2 minute car ride takes you to Barracao where there are three restaurants, a bar and a general store. These are truly local establishments i.e. you will need a little Portuguese or your phrase book handy to order anything!
Casa Helene is an ideal base for a wide range of activities and sightseeing opportunities. You will be spoilt for choice with the selection of destinations to enjoy on your trips out, including the University City of Coimbra (for shoppers and lovers of architecture), the broad white sandy beaches of the Silver Coast to the west and to the East, the highest mountains in Portugal at Serra da Estrela. Casa Helene can be accessed via Porto [1.5 hours by car] or Lisbon [ just over 2 hours by car] Airports.
